Sightseeing

There are many interesting cities close-by; here is a short list:

 

Nature Park "BIOKOVO" marked by distinctive beauty of its landscape, the great diversity of wildlife and a wealth of geomorphological forms and phenomena (caves, cracks, sinkholes, oysters, pit ...). Depending on weather conditions and altitude position of the area is covered with vegetation of the Mediterranean up to the mountain. With the old forests of beech, fir and pine, the park has recorded nearly 1,500 species of plants, including a number of endemic and relict species (Biokovo bell, narrow-leafed knapweed, etc.). The vertebrate fauna of numerous reptiles and birds, and about thirty species of mammals that live here we should mention dormice, bats, wild boar, chamois, mouflon and wolf.  BIOKOVO KOTISINA BOTANICAL GARDEN

On the coastal slopes of the mountain slope above the village Kotišina (3 km from Makarska), at an altitude of 350-500 meters there is a Biokovo botanical garden of 16.5 ha. It was founded in 1984, naturalist, scientist and Franciscan Friar Dr. Jure Radic (1920th-1990th) with the purpose of scientific research, conservation and visiting the unique flora of Biokovo. The garden is a control point KT 7 times instructive ecological Dr. fra Jure Radic and it was one of the reasons to visit this gem of the nature park mountain
The right time to visit the Botanical Gardens of the spring or early summer, when the garden most lavish and abundant floral variety. You can not claim with certainty what makes Kotišina named, but probably so named just after the silence that prevails in it.
At the entrance to the Garden is the inscription "Watch Me Grow Botanical garden" carved in a tree across the path, and to the left of the entrance of the stone are carved the words of its founder Dr. Fra Jure Radic:
"EYES brains HEART
From what can be seen
To what is not seen. "
Biokovo is a mountain beauty and diversity, mountains "with roots in the sea and forehead in lightning" and if you are willing to donate her some time and love will reward you many times ...

 Nice path leads to the well-preserved walls of fortress from the 17th century - Kastelet. Inside the stone walls, defying centuries, there is a small natural cave. Kaštelet impresses with its appearance, provokes curiosity beneath steep cliffs Biokovo.
Kastelet was built during the Candian wars between the Venetian Republic and the Ottoman Empire. Who knows who all lived here and shelter there. Today, under the protection of the Ministry of Culture as a valuable cultural and historical monument.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 Through the garden are several hiking trails which offer interesting views on the rocky cliffs of Biokovo above us, on the high seas down in the depths, in some parts of the Botanical Gardens, and the Kaštelet and the little church. Ante at the beginning of the XX. Century built on the foundations of the old church from the XVII. century.
On a relatively small area of the Garden, in very diverse habitats such as rocky, Scree (talus), precipitous cliffs, arable land, even a canyon with waterfall Proslap (revive only for heavy rain) it was found about 300 wild plant varieties, typical of the Mediterranean to the mountain.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 
  SIRINE VEPRIC
Sanctuary "VEPRIC" Croatian Lourdes shrine was founded in 1908 Bishop Dr. George Kinglet (1867-1921), who is buried in the shrine. Natural caves and scenery with hills, plants and spring between them recalls the Lourdes, where the Bl.Dj.Marija year 1858. appeared 18 times to Bernadette Soubirous. This center is also a chapel and the sacristy, the altar in the square, confessionals, Stations of the Cross, the home of the spiritual exercises, walking processions. Podignutra a new house for the sanctuary and retreat. Because of its natural beauty and tranquility, this place has a very good attendance throughout the year, and the main pilgrimage days: 11.II, 25.III, 15 VIII, 7 8 and IX.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

   

     

 
 PICTURES UNDERWATER
The village of Stanići is on the road from Omiš to Makarska; this is an excellent site for novice divers and night dives and lies about 150 m out to sea at a depth of c. 20 m. The wall here is frequented by damselfish, painted combers, John Dories, conger eels and is reached by boat, or by swimming from shore. A strong current may prevail, a time when fan worms come out to feed. Striped and black bream are found on the silt seabed.


 

 






Omis – 13 km distance

This is the closest town to Marusici and famous for its rich and turbulent history as a former pirate town.

Malacological Museum (in the Franciscan monastery) Makarska has a rich cultural and historical heritage, but the special attraction is the Malacological Museum with an interesting and unique collection from the Adriatic and the sea. It is considered one of the finest and richest malacological museums in the world.

Makarska – 25 km distance

This is the second-closest town to Marusici and a harbour city with a long history. It also has a beautiful promenade along the shore.

Split – 40 km distance

Split is the largest town in Dalmatia and widely considered its unofficial capital. It is a harbour city which has been in existence since Roman times. A famous sight in Split is Diocletian’s Palace which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Trogir – 60 km distance

Trogir is a small coastal town north of Split. Trogir’s entire historical city centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Sibenik – 120 km distance (via highway)

Sibenik is a larger coastal town of Dalmatia. The Cathedral of St. James in Sibenik is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
